Having grown up just outside of New York City, diners were a big part of my culinary experience. We do have them in DC, but due to me having taken a bunch of rye bread home from Rockland Bakery from my last trip to see the fam up in New York, I got the idea to make a diner breakfast (I always asked for rye bread whenever I ordered it back in NY). The home fries were the most time-consuming, but totally worth it. They accompanied the rye bread, a Western omelette, and, of course, coffee, as is required with the savory diner breakfast.
