Ever since I was a kid, I loved movies. When I turned fourteen, I started watching Siskel & Ebert and fell in love with reading movie reviews. I wrote them for my junior high school newspaper and devoured reviews from books like Roger Ebert's Movie Home Companion, Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide, and Videohound's Golden Movie Retriever. When I took a video production course in high school, my dream was to become the next Steven Spielberg. After having watched The Fabelmans, I learned I didn't quite have Spielberg's talent or drive, but by then, I was already established as an English professor and Singles Studies scholar/writer. But my love for movies and reading movie reviews has stood tall. In a recent Medium article, I proposed a Bechdel-like test that measures how singles are portrayed in films, and whether the movie takes a pro- or anti-singlehood stance, or somewhere in between. Each week, I'll post a review of a movie. The Bad News Bears Wildcats Private Benjamin Getting Out Clean and Sober 28 Days Butter Blue Streak Vision Quest Hard Promises My Bodyguard
